Victor Osimhen Flies Home to Decide on Surgery After Fractured Forearm

Victor Osimhen, the Galatasaray striker, has returned to Nigeria to weigh up surgery after fracturing his right forearm. The injury occurred during the Champions League round-of-16 tie at Anfield following a collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté. He managed to play until half-time despite the pain. His arm is now in a cast and he will wait for the swelling to subside before making a final call on surgery. Should he opt for the operation, he could face about six weeks out. That would rule him out of key Super Lig matches against Trabzonspor, Kocaelispor and Gençlerbirliği. Osimhen is also racing to be fit for the big derby with Fenerbahçe on April 26. He was not called up for the Super Eagles’ friendlies against Iran and Jordan, but his trip home was arranged before the injury and squad announcement. Despite battling fitness issues and missing seven games this season, the former African Footballer of the Year has still delivered 19 goals and seven assists, cementing his role as a crucial player for his club.
