WAEC Official Calls for CBT, Biometrics and CCTV to Tackle ‘Miracle Centres’

A WAEC official in Makurdi has called for stricter computer-based testing to curb examination malpractice and protect the credibility of WAEC and NECO certificates. He said allegations of so-called “miracle centres” in Benue are concerning, although WAEC has not officially confirmed any such centre in the state. He stressed that examination success should reflect students’ knowledge, preparation and competence, not access to help during tests. A teacher also recommended independent examination centres, biometric verification and CCTV monitoring to reduce the influence of schools and improve security. However, a school proprietor noted that admitting SS3 students from other schools does not automatically make a school a “miracle centre”, as parents may transfer children because of high fees and other costs.
