Man Sentenced to One Year for Sexually Exploiting 15-Year-Old in Calabar
The Federal High Court in Calabar has convicted 55-year-old Etteokon Ntuen for harbouring and sexually exploiting a 15-year-old girl under the guise of providing educational opportunities. He misled the victim’s parents by claiming he would take their daughter to Lagos for schooling but instead abused her in Cross River State. Presiding over the case, Justice L. I. Ojukwu sentenced Ntuen to one year in prison. The court also ordered N300,000 in compensation to the victim and a written apology to her and her family. Ntuen was found guilty under Section 13(2)(b) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. Representatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said the judgment should serve as a warning to anyone involved in trafficking or abusing minors under false pretences.
