UNIOSUN Lecture Unveils Universities’ Role in ESG and Sustainable Development
On 25 June 2026, UNIOSUN’s College of Science, Engineering and Technology held its fifth annual lecture in Osogbo. Dr Adesoji Tayo, a microfinance and sustainable development expert, outlined how universities can embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles to tackle climate change, resource depletion and social inequality. He emphasized that higher education institutions must extend beyond teaching and research to drive innovation, shape public policy and stimulate economic growth. Quoting UNESCO, he noted that a university’s value is measured by the real-world impact its knowledge creates. Vice-Chancellor Prof Odunayo Adebooye highlighted ongoing efforts to weave ESG into curricula, research and daily operations. He pledged to bolster studies in renewable energy, environmental sciences and social innovation to prepare graduates as ethical, sustainability-minded leaders. Traditional rulers, corporate figures and academic leaders in attendance affirmed the university’s pivotal role in national development. They called on students and stakeholders to forge partnerships and deliver practical solutions that build a greener, fairer and more resilient future.
