Hossam Hassan Targets Egypt’s First World Cup Knockout as Pharaohs Face Belgium

Hossam Hassan Targets Egypt’s First World Cup Knockout as Pharaohs Face Belgium

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan insists his side must do more than just qualify for the 2026 World Cup as they prepare to face Belgium. Having featured as a player in Italy 1990, Hassan believes the Pharaohs can finally reach the knockout stages. “We played well back then but did not follow it through. Now, I hope, God willing, we can go through,” he said. Despite a record seven Africa Cup of Nations titles, Egypt still seeks its first World Cup knockout win. Hassan stressed that football in Egypt is more than a game. “Whenever Egyptians see the flag, they rally around it every time,” he added. He reserved special praise for captain Mohamed Salah, calling him one of the world’s best. “The most important thing is for us to win and score goals for Egypt,” Hassan said.

While Hassan recalls 1990 successes, past form doesn't guarantee future wins against strong European sides like Belgium.
