I Almost Lost My Chief of Staff Role Over Desmond Elliott’s Impeachment Plot

I Almost Lost My Chief of Staff Role Over Desmond Elliott’s Impeachment Plot

Last year, President Tinubu called me to his Abuja study during the Obasa impeachment saga. He asked if Desmond Elliott was my protégé and said intelligence linked Desmond to the plot. I assured the president Desmond wasn’t involved, then called Desmond to warn him. Three days later, the DSS Director-General contacted me, saying my name was tied to the impeachment effort. I urged Desmond to publicly deny any role, but he has stayed silent. Facing these allegations, I had to step back from supporting his bid for a fourth term in the Lagos State Assembly.

How did the president obtain his intelligence linking Desmond Elliott to that impeachment plot, and what proof was presented before the warning?

You're right, I'm curious too about how they got such intel and if any evidence was shared first.

It's interesting how quickly presidential concerns over patronage can override due process, especially when intelligence is built on rumor rather than documented evidence.

I'm not convinced the president would act on unverified intel so swiftly without any follow-up, maybe there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Next time such allegations emerge, both officeholders and their aides should insist on transparent fact-checking before sounding alarms at the highest levels.
