ICPC Empowers INEC Officers with Anti-Corruption Workshop Ahead of 2027 Polls
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has charged INEC electoral officers to maintain the highest levels of transparency and accountability as preparations intensify for the 2027 general election. At a two-day “Corruption-Free Election: Integrity Matters” workshop in Abuja, ICPC leaders emphasised the need for professionalism and warned against practices that could undermine electoral credibility. Represented by the ICPC Director of Legal Services, officials highlighted how corrupt practices in elections lead to costly reruns, legal battles and eroded public trust. They explained that this training forms part of the Commission’s preventive anti-corruption mandate and reinforces its partnership with INEC to strengthen capacity for free, fair and credible polls. INEC’s leadership praised the initiative and urged staff to engage actively throughout the sessions. Presenters detailed the legal risks of conflicts of interest, the impact of financial inducements, and the importance of value reorientation in upholding electoral integrity.
