On Saturday, more than 500 sports lovers in Anambra took part in the Olympic Day Walk in Awka. The event began at the ABS gate at 7:00 am and ended at the Awka City Stadium with an aerobics session. Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Patrick Agha Mba explained that Olympic Day marks the founding of the International Olympic Committee. He said the celebration promotes the Olympic values of Move, Learn and Discover and builds unity, fitness and sporting excellence. He praised Ndi Anambra for the turnout and highlighted the completion of the Ekwulobia Township Stadium and other facilities by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. A representative of the Nigerian Olympic Committee also encouraged healthy living and Olympic spirit among participants. The highlight was the presentation of Certificates of Participation from the IOC to all walkers, and the promise that the walk will become an annual grassroots sports initiative.
