Keeping a Tender Heart Before God: Winning the Battle Against Sin

A Spirit-controlled life brings peace and direction. To stay in that flow, we must guard our hearts by staying sensitive to anything that grieves the Spirit. Psalm 119:11 reminds us, “I have hidden your word in my heart to avoid sin.” In Christ, we are called to live in holiness. Holy sensitivity involves immediate awareness of wrongdoing, quick repentance, and guarding our thoughts. Jesus is both our example and our power. He lived without sin (1 Peter 2:22), resisted temptation with Scripture (Matthew 4:4), and purifies us through his blood (1 John 1:7). A hardened heart loses spiritual sensitivity, but a tender heart preserves purity and deepens intimacy with God. To walk in victory, fill your heart daily with God’s Word. Respond swiftly to conviction. Avoid influences that weaken sensitivity. Practice immediate repentance and guard your thoughts. Ask yourself: Is my heart still tender to God’s correction?

I get the call to holiness, but focusing so much on avoiding sin can leave us anxious instead of resting in Christ's grace.
