Sanusi Praises CBN Reforms, Says Economy Is Growing Faster Than Population

Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II says Nigeria’s economy is now growing faster than its population for the first time, following reforms by the Central Bank of Nigeria. Speaking at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit, the former CBN governor credited tighter monetary policy with reducing excess liquidity and restoring macroeconomic stability after years of loose money supply. Sanusi praised the CBN’s efforts to contain inflation. The Monetary Policy Rate was retained at 26.50%, while inflation stood at 15.91% in June 2026.
