IGP Disu Charges Kano Police to Strike First and Unveils Six Pillars of Modern Policing
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has urged officers of the Kano State Command to take the fight directly to criminals with bold, proactive actions. The message, delivered by DIG Sulaiman Abdul, praised recent successes in arrests and neutralizing bandits. Disu emphasised that striking first is better than reacting, and commended the command’s bravery and dedication. He introduced six core pillars for internal security: intelligence-led and technology-driven policing; strict accountability and human rights compliance; strengthened internal oversight; community engagement; inter-agency collaboration with “Handshake Patrols” across borders; and personnel welfare with modern training and welfare support. Kano Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Bakori reported that 1,357 suspects have been arrested since January. He also outlined ongoing joint border operations and regular town hall meetings to address emerging threats across several local government areas.
