Tinubu Celebrates 70 Years of Nigerian Navy, Commissions Three New Vessels
President Bola Tinubu praised the Nigerian Navy’s seven decades of service at the International Fleet Review in Eko Atlantic, Lagos. He highlighted their achievements in combating piracy, crude oil theft, illegal fishing and maritime smuggling in the Gulf of Guinea. As part of the anniversary events, the President commissioned three new ships – NNS Oloibiri, NNS Mambila and NNS Gurara – noting that these additions will enhance operational capacity and investor confidence in Nigeria’s blue economy. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernising naval capabilities through investments in technology, training, personnel welfare and strategic partnerships with regional and international navies. Tinubu also commended the Navy’s contributions to counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations across the country.
