11 Nigerians Share Why They Became Side Partners

11 Nigerians Share Why They Became Side Partners

Eleven Nigerians share how they became involved with partners who were already in relationships or marriages. Some say they were deceived at the beginning, while others knowingly entered the arrangement because of loneliness, financial support, emotional attachment or fear of commitment. Their experiences include secrecy, guilt, abuse, heartbreak, complicated sexuality, pregnancy and the hope that a partner would eventually choose them. Several participants say they remained because they believed the existing relationship would end. Most of them later left, were cut off or realised they were being used. Looking back, many say they would not make the same choice again.
