Senator Gbenga Daniel at 70: The Awolowo Family’s Heartfelt Tribute
I have had the privilege of knowing Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel through our mutual admiration for Papa Obafemi Awolowo and his dear wife, Yeye H. I. D. Awolowo. They cared for Mama Awolowo with deep affection and once enlisted Gbenga Daniel to quietly persuade me to return from the UK. He visited me and later invited my family to Ogun State, combining warmth and tact in that gentle charade. His loyalty to Awo’s legacy has shone through his generous support of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, especially during the centenary celebrations in 2009, and his administration’s efforts to revive the Dideolu Specialist Hospital. As he marks this milestone, we celebrate his steadfast friendship, unwavering commitment to public service, and enduring dedication to the ideals of Awo. I wish him robust health and many more years of purposeful engagement. Congratulations to him, his wife Yeye Olufunke, and the entire Daniel family.
