Nigerian Troops Kill 102 Suspects, Rescue 393 Kidnap Victims in July Operations
The Defence Headquarters says Nigerian troops killed more than 102 terrorists and other criminal elements, arrested 345 suspects, and rescued 393 kidnapped victims during nationwide operations in July. The military said 57 insurgents and their family members surrendered, while troops recovered 59 weapons and 1,811 rounds of ammunition. Operations were carried out alongside other security agencies and local vigilante groups. In the North-East, troops reportedly killed Boko Haram and ISWAP commander Abu Salim al-Barnawi in Kukawa, Borno State. In the North-West, Operation Fansan Yamma rescued 191 victims and neutralised 33 terrorists across Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara. The operations also targeted oil theft in the South-South, where troops dismantled 18 illegal refining sites and recovered more than 250,500 litres of suspected stolen petroleum products. The military urged Nigerians to provide credible security information through the emergency line 193.
