Inside Court: Army Reveals How It Foiled Alleged Coup Against Tinubu

The Nigerian Army told the Federal High Court in Abuja that it uncovered a coup plot aimed at toppling President Bola Tinubu. A masked Corps of Military Police witness called “AAA” said the probe began after then Chief of Army Staff General O. O. Oluyede received intelligence on plans led by Colonel M. A. Maaji. Investigators seized a Samsung Galaxy phone and a notebook with operational plans, target officers’ names and records of large fund transfers through a company called “Purple Wave.” The accused include retired Major General Mohammed Gana, former Bayelsa governor Timipre Sylva, serving Police Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and three others. They face charges of treason, terrorism and money laundering. The trial resumes on May 4 and 5.

How credible do you find the army's claims about uncovering a coup plot aimed at toppling President Tinubu?

On what basis did the army link those suspects to a real threat, and can we verify their sources?

I hear your doubts, but we shouldn't write off the army's court revelation so quickly without seeing more evidence.

The fact a masked witness known only as "AAA" handled critical intelligence does raise questions about transparency in this military investigation.

I'm not convinced this disclosure is purely about security rather than serving political narratives around President Tinubu's administration.

The priority should be establishing an independent inquiry to verify the army's findings and ensure public trust in the process.
