Chaos at Edo Children’s Day Celebration as Pepper Spray Fumes Leave Pupils Fainting
During Children’s Day at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, several students collapsed after a private security guard fired pepper spray. Reports indicate the trouble began when some male pupils made inappropriate advances toward female students. Security intervened but was overwhelmed, prompting the guard to use pepper spray in self-defence. Many students, especially girls, inhaled the irritant and were rushed to Edo Specialist Hospital. Medical staff said two pupils remain under observation and will be discharged later today. The state government has detained the guard involved. A spokesperson for the governor confirmed all other affected students have been treated and reiterated that safety measures were in place for the celebration.
