Robert Lewandowski Heads to MLS with Chicago Fire Deal

Robert Lewandowski Heads to MLS with Chicago Fire Deal — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Robert Lewandowski has agreed a two-year contract with an option for a third season at MLS side Chicago Fire. The 37-year-old left Barcelona as a free agent after four years in Catalonia. He turned down offers from Saudi Pro League clubs and AC Milan before visiting Chicago’s training base with his agent, Pini Zahavi. The deal is understood to be worth around €10–15 million net per season and positions him as the franchise’s new face. Lewandowski joins a growing list of global stars in MLS, following Lionel Messi at Inter Miami and Son Heung-Min at LAFC. He departs Barcelona with three league titles and a legacy built on record-breaking seasons at Bayern Munich.

True, his proven scoring touch should help Chicago Fire challenge for playoffs and maybe earn MVP honors.

He's 37 and just left Barcelona as a free agent, so his peak performance days in high-intensity European leagues might be behind him.

I'm not convinced the MLS challenge will suit his style—it's quite different from La Liga's tactical setups and pace.

Chicago Fire should focus on building a strong midfield to complement his finishing skills and help control matches.
