The Akure Magistrate’s Court has ordered that 43-year-old Islamic cleric Alabi Oloye be remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre. He faces charges for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl on May 1 at Ogbe Secondary School in Oda Town. Inspector Augustine Omhenimen told the court that Oloye forcefully had carnal knowledge of the minor at around 9:45 am. The offence is punishable under Section 3(a)(b) of the Ondo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Laws. Defence counsel Samuel Jemiluyi applied for bail, but the court refused after input from the Ondo State Agency Against Gender-Based Violence and awaits advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
