FG Mulls Flight Bans and Traveller Isolation as Ebola Concerns Rise
The Federal Government is exploring emergency travel measures to guard against a fresh Ebola threat in parts of Africa. Officials discussed stricter airport screening, passenger monitoring and isolation protocols for travellers from high-risk countries. Flight restrictions from heavily affected regions are also on the table. This response follows reports of over 1,000 confirmed and suspected Ebola cases, and more than 200 deaths, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo since the outbreak began this month. Nigeria remains on high alert due to heavy international traffic through Lagos and Abuja airports. Health authorities stress that no Ebola case has been confirmed in Nigeria. They say surveillance and preparedness efforts will continue in partnership with international agencies to prevent any possible outbreak.
