The coach aims to secure a record 11th WAFCON title and lock in qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Madugu acknowledges the challenge of defending the crown under extra scrutiny. He says the team will stay focused on clinching a World Cup spot before turning full attention to retaining continental glory. Next year’s finals will expand to 16 teams for the first time. Madugu believes the larger format will boost women’s football in Africa by giving more nations and players exposure and attracting greater investment in the women’s game.
