Samsung Smart TVs to Ship with DStv Stream Pre-Installed in 18 African Countries

Samsung Smart TVs to Ship with DStv Stream Pre-Installed in 18 African Countries

Canal+ owner MultiChoice has teamed up with Samsung Electronics to pre-install the DStv Stream app on all new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 English and Portuguese-speaking African markets. From 1 June 2026, viewers in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe and other key countries will find the DStv Stream icon on their TV home screens. This gives instant access to live sports and entertainment, including the FIFA World Cup, English Premier League and international rugby. The partnership builds on an existing collaboration between Canal+ and Samsung in Europe, French-speaking Africa and Asia. MultiChoice says the deal will accelerate growth of its streaming and OTT ecosystem as consumer habits evolve. This follows Paris-based Canal+’s R54 billion acquisition of MultiChoice last year, uniting two major broadcasters to strengthen content delivery across the continent.

Pre-installing DStv Stream may limit choice if users prefer streaming apps not supported by Samsung's default setup.

I'm not convinced everyone needs that app right away; uninstalling defaults can be a pain for less tech-savvy folks.

Check your TV settings first and compare data plans for DStv Stream before committing to any subscription on the new Samsung model.
