My Father Earns Well but Refuses to Support Me or My Mom

I’m a student at the University of Abuja, and my father works at the German Embassy earning over ₦500k monthly. Yet for the past three years, he rarely gives us more than ₦100k. Some months we get nothing for food and household needs. He even took a large pension advance—around ₦5 million—and spends it on others. I’ve asked him for school fees, but he doesn’t care about my education. I’m at my wit’s end. What can I do to get the support my mom and I need?

Have you tried discussing your family's financial expectations with your father? How do you think he might respond if approached directly?

It seems odd that someone with that income would limit support so drastically. Perhaps there are undisclosed financial priorities influencing his choices.

I get why you feel unfairly treated, but he may see that pension advance as personal security. Not every parent shares expenses equally.

Consider setting a clear budget and presenting concrete figures to your father. Offering to cover certain costs might encourage him to contribute more consistently.
