Armed Edo State Task Force Storms Benin City’s 1st Circular Road, Destroys Drivers’ Vehicles

A chaotic scene unfolded on Benin City’s busy 1st Circular Road when the Edo State Task Force descended on a driver park. They fired shots into the air and sprayed teargas as drivers protested alleged illegal levies. Drivers denied claims that former union officials within the task force were extorting them. Despite this, officers dragged and beat several drivers, removed licence plates, slashed tyres and towed away vans. Some of the injured were treated at Erowa Hospital, while others remain unaccounted for. Residents are demanding the Edo State government launch an investigation to restore justice and peace.
