INEC Issues Certificates of Return to Adeleke and Deputy After Osun Governorship Victory

The Independent National Electoral Commission has presented Certificates of Return to Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, following their reported victory in the August 15 governorship election. INEC said Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, ahead of APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes. Adeleke reportedly won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won the other 11. The certificates formally clear Adeleke and Adewusi to begin another four-year term. Adeleke thanked INEC, security agencies and Osun residents, describing the election as peaceful and credible.
