18-Year-Old Handed 15-Year Term for Raping His Aunt in Gokwe South

An 18-year-old man from Gokwe South was sentenced to 15 years in prison after a court found him guilty of raping his 42-year-old aunt. The attack took place on May 16, 2026, while they were walking to a nearby village for casual labour. According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the teenager grabbed his aunt by the neck, forced her to the ground and assaulted her. A passerby heard her cries and intervened, helping the victim to safety and reporting the crime to the police. Court proceedings led to an effective 15-year sentence. The prosecuting authority reiterated its commitment to combating sexual violence and urged the public to report such offences promptly.
