Cooking Gas Prices Drop to ₦1,100–₦1,650/kg, Offering Relief Nationwide

Nigerians are enjoying relief as cooking gas prices have fallen back to between ₦1,100 and ₦1,650 per kilogram across major cities. In April, gas sold for ₦900–₦1,000/kg before soaring above ₦2,000/kg by June. Now Abuja, Port Harcourt, Benin, Warri, Onitsha and Enugu prices range from ₦1,250 to ₦1,500/kg. Kano and Kaduna trade at ₦1,300–₦1,550/kg, while Maiduguri still sees up to ₦1,650/kg. Industry leaders say the drop reflects improved supply, lower depot rates, reduced hoarding after government interventions and sharper competition among marketers. Consumers report they can return to cooking gas after weeks of using charcoal. Authorities have also ordered security agencies and regulators to crack down on illegal diversion and boost transparency in distribution.

With cooking gas now between ₦1,100 and ₦1,650, how long do you think these lower prices will hold across different regions?

What signs should we watch to know if these cooking gas prices might rise again in some regions?

These prices are relief, but the jump from under ₦1,000 to over ₦2,000 earlier this year highlights how volatile the market remains.

I'm not convinced every area will see these rates soon; local dealers might still charge you closer to ₦1,800 per kilogram.

To make the most of these lower gas costs, consider bulk buying when prices dip and coordinate with neighbors to split cylinders.
