Youth Party Disowns Suit That Halted INEC’s 2027 Timetable

Youth Party Disowns Suit That Halted INEC’s 2027 Timetable — 1 of 3
1 / 3

The Youth Party’s national leadership has publicly rejected a lawsuit filed against INEC at the Federal High Court in Abuja. They say the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/517/2026 was launched without approval from any recognised party organ. In a notice issued on Wednesday, the party dissociated itself from the case and its May 20, 2026 judgment. It warned individuals behind the suit that they would be held personally accountable. The Youth Party insists it remains committed to INEC’s electoral guidelines. It says it has no intention of using the courts to undermine the 2027 election process and is focused on its upcoming convention and primaries. Separately, Justice Umar nullified key sections of INEC’s revised timetable, ruling that several deadlines conflicted with the Electoral Act, 2026.

What do you think motivated the Youth Party's leadership to publicly reject that lawsuit filed against INEC?

Do you think there was internal pressure from grassroots members that pushed leaders to distance themselves from the lawsuit?

It's odd the suit named FHC/ABJ/CS/517/2026 came without any party organ's approval, yet someone went ahead anyway.

Agreed, but maybe insiders wanted to force a rethink on the schedule before it runs wild.

Claiming zero knowledge of that court filing sounds convenient; maybe insiders want to avoid blame for the election timetable delay.

The party should tighten its internal communication channels and ensure legal actions are vetted by official organs before filing.
