North Korean Colonel Reportedly Executed Over Alleged Theft of Reserve Grain

North Korean Colonel Reportedly Executed Over Alleged Theft of Reserve Grain

A senior North Korean colonel was reportedly executed by firing squad after allegedly stealing several dozen tonnes of grain from military reserve stores during the country’s food crisis. According to a source cited by Daily NK, the colonel, who served with a coastal guard unit in Nampo, was arrested after warehouse guards allegedly discovered an attempt to move the grain towards the port. He was reportedly investigated by the Military Security Bureau, tried by court-martial and executed on July 12 in front of members of his unit. The report said officers who witnessed the shooting were deeply shaken.
