I Turned $10 Into Profit, Then Lost It to Greed and Overtrading

I Turned $10 Into Profit, Then Lost It to Greed and Overtrading — 1 of 2
1 / 2

I started today’s trading challenge with $10 and grew it to $18.50. I withdrew $8, but then allowed greed and multiple positions to ruin the progress I had made. I was up by about $45 at one point, but I lost it again. It is a painful reminder that discipline matters more than chasing every opportunity. My mistake today was letting biased greed take control. I lost only a few dollars, but I know I could have managed the trades better. The goal is to become a consistently profitable market operator, not just an impulsive trader.

What rule do you think would have protected the gains once the account moved from $10 to $18.50?

Would a fixed profit target or a stop-loss rule have made it easier to avoid overtrading?

Withdrawing $8 was a sensible move; the difficult part seems to have been treating the remaining balance with the same discipline.

Greed may be part of it, but opening multiple positions without a clear limit sounds like the bigger issue here.

Set a maximum number of positions and a daily stop point before trading. Once either limit is reached, step away.
