How I Prepared for the Praxis Mathematics Exam in Just Eight Weeks
I decided to pursue secondary mathematics licensure and knew the Praxis Mathematics exam would test both deep content knowledge and my teaching skills. The process made me revisit topics I hadn’t touched in years while sharpening practical classroom approaches. The exam features 66 selected-response questions in three hours. It covers number and quantity, algebra, functions and calculus, geometry, and statistics with probability. About a quarter of the questions present teaching scenarios that ask how to explain concepts or correct student errors. I built an eight-week study plan. Mornings were devoted to calculus and functions since those needed the most work. Afternoons focused on geometry and statistics. I kept sessions to 90 minutes and reviewed formulas daily. Consistency mattered more than marathon cramming. I used realistic practice materials from popular test-prep platforms to identify weak spots. Timed full sections helped build endurance. On test day, I used the on-screen calculator wisely and skipped tough items to return later. This balanced approach reduced anxiety and ensured I finished on time.
