Katsina Communities Mobilised for Flood Preparedness by NEMA
The National Emergency Management Agency brought together government agencies, traditional leaders, women, youth groups and humanitarian partners in Katsina State to boost readiness for flooding ahead of the rainy season. Officials from both NEMA and the state emergency agency outlined the new 2026 Climate-Related Risk Management, Preparedness and Mitigation Framework. Plans include capacity building exercises, infrastructure assessments, prepositioning relief supplies and evacuation planning for high-risk areas. A special briefing highlighted the latest climate outlook from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and flood forecasts from the Hydrological Services Agency. Stakeholders discussed early warning systems and coordinated disaster response strategies under the theme “Strengthening Disaster Risk Governance for a Resilient Nigeria.” The engagement concluded with a sensitisation visit to Kwanar Are community next to the local dam. Residents received guidance on flood prevention, evacuation procedures and official weather advisories, along with printed materials in Hausa and English.
