For Transparency: MOSIEND Urges Tinubu to Vacate Petroleum Ministry
At the 58th Boro Day celebration in Port Harcourt on May 16, the Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to relinquish his additional role as Minister of Petroleum. MOSIEND’s president, Ambassador Kennedy West, argued that combining the presidency with direct oversight of the oil sector undermines accountability and effective supervision. He noted that if such close presidential oversight is necessary for oil, it should apply equally to other strategic areas like defence and solid minerals. “MOSIEND respectfully calls on President Tinubu to review the practice of holding the petroleum ministry alongside the presidency,” West stated, insisting that governance requires specialization and transparent oversight.
