Kano–Maradi Railway 60% Complete, FG Targets December 2027 Delivery

Kano–Maradi Railway 60% Complete, FG Targets December 2027 Delivery

The Federal Government reports that the Kaduna–Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi rail project is now 60% complete, with full delivery scheduled for December 2027 as part of its infrastructure expansion drive. Engr. Ali Bukar, the resident engineer for section two, noted steady progress along the Kano–Dutse corridor. Bridge foundations and superstructure installations are advancing across major waterways and challenging terrain. On the Kano–Jigawa axis, covering some 104 kilometres, and the branch line linking Kano to Dutse, track laying, earthworks and key structural components have been installed. Funded by the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Programme, the railway is expected to strengthen connectivity, boost regional trade and deepen economic integration between Nigeria and Niger Republic.

Definitely. The rail should boost trade in and out of Kano, lower transport costs and stimulate job growth locally.

I agree it could open up new market access and create jobs locally, though I remain cautious about actual cost reductions.

Progress on the Kaduna–Kano–Jigawa section seems steady, yet past infrastructure targets often face delays, so I remain cautious.

60% completion is impressive on paper, but una no mention how consistent funding will be sustained for the remaining phases.

Stakeholders should track monthly progress reports and engage local contractors to ensure steady momentum towards the December 2027 deadline.
