President Tinubu to Address Joint National Assembly on Democracy Day
President Bola Tinubu will mark the 27th Democracy Day with a national broadcast and a joint address to the National Assembly, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, announced at the inauguration of the Inter-Ministerial Committee in Abuja. Akume paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12, 1993 struggle, particularly the late Chief MKO Abiola, noting their sacrifices led to the recognition of June 12 as Democracy Day. He said the celebration provides an opportunity to showcase the administration’s progress in strengthening institutions, implementing reforms and driving national development despite economic challenges. Planned activities include a world press conference, special prayers, a public lecture, youth and women-oriented programmes, the presidential broadcast, the joint assembly address and a gala night. Akume urged committee members to begin preparations immediately and submit budgets for approval.
