Opportunity: General Manager & Editor-in-Chief for South East’s First News & Policy FM Station

Pedestal Broadcasting Company is launching South East Nigeria’s first dedicated News & Policy FM station in Owerri. We seek a dynamic General Manager & Editor-in-Chief to steer our newsroom and operations. Key responsibilities include defining the station’s voice, leading digital convergence across podcasts, YouTube, and live streaming, managing day-to-day operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mentoring emerging journalists. You will also represent the station in discussions with policymakers, corporate partners, and community leaders. The ideal candidate holds a university degree or diploma, with 7–12 years of experience in media, journalism, or communications. Proven innovation in content strategy and a strong track record of building an online audience are essential. We offer a competitive salary, on-site accommodation in Owerri, and an official operational vehicle. Interested candidates should apply by sending their CV and cover letter.

I'm not convinced merging leadership and editorial duties won't compromise journalistic integrity in a startup newsroom.

A phased approach to hiring experienced news managers first could help the station establish credibility before full operations begin.
