Ohanaeze Hails End of South-East Herdsmen Attacks After Buhari’s Passing
Ohanaeze Ndigbo reports that since former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death in 2025, the South-East has recorded no Fulani herdsmen attacks. The group calls this sudden peace a ‘miracle’ and says it confirms long-held suspicions that these militias were state-sponsored under Buhari’s tenure. According to the organisation’s deputy President-General and national spokesperson, the herdsmen unleashed terror for six years. They destroyed farmlands, occupied forests as bases, and displaced countless communities. Ohanaeze puts the human cost at nearly 2,960 lives lost with many more injured. While acknowledging the efforts of the Federal Government and South-East governors, Ohanaeze credits the major turnaround to Buhari’s passing. The group also commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for restoring security and improving regional infrastructure. On Tinubu’s 74th birthday, Ohanaeze extends heartfelt gratitude for the renewed peace and development in the Igbo heartland.
