NDLEA Arrests 93-Year-Old Kingpin and Medical Doctor in Massive Nationwide Bust

NDLEA Arrests 93-Year-Old Kingpin and Medical Doctor in Massive Nationwide Bust

The NDLEA has intensified raids across Nigeria, arresting a 93-year-old suspect in Abia State and a 69-year-old medical doctor in Ogun State among dozens of others. In Abia, officers recovered 7.7kg of skunk from Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu’s home. At Kano airport, operatives nabbed an Ivorian national with 1.49kg of cocaine. In Ogun, Dr. Chudi Daniel Ofomata was arrested with controlled substances. Other operations yielded 34kg of skunk in Ogun, 56.2kg in Imo and 118kg from a couple in Niger State. Borno agents intercepted Rohypnol tablets and codeine syrup, while Lagos and Edo raids stopped large loads of cannabis and codeine-based products. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for the seizures. The agency says it will sustain its War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation campaigns to curb supply and demand.

What do you think led the NDLEA to find a 93-year-old kingpin hiding such a large quantity of skunk in Abia State?

True, methodical investigation and good leads must have pinpointed his location despite his age.

I'm not sure age had anything to do with it. NDLEA probably tracked tips, surveillance or solid intelligence instead.

It seems surprising that a 93-year-old could coordinate nationwide trafficking, yet authorities still managed to track down these suspects.

I'm not convinced age should be the focus; we should question how enforcement gaps allowed these operations to grow for so long.

Local communities could help by reporting unusual stockpiles or suspicious movements to nearby security agencies promptly.
