Christian Coalition Petitions Trump, US Congress Over Possible APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket in 2027
The Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria and other Christian and human rights groups have petitioned US President Donald Trump, the US Congress and foreign diplomatic missions over the possibility of the APC retaining a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in 2027. The coalition said the arrangement could deepen religious division and worsen the sense of exclusion among Christian communities, particularly in Northern Nigeria. It urged Nigerian authorities to reflect the country’s religious diversity in national leadership. The group also criticised the rehabilitation of repentant terrorists, calling instead for prosecution of those involved in terrorism. It asked the US to maintain Nigeria’s Country of Particular Concern designation pending independently verified improvements in the protection of Christian communities. It further requested transparent investigations into attacks in Plateau, Benue and other affected areas, continued aid for displaced people, and a probe into its allegations of foreign influence in Nigeria’s political process.
