Wike Urges PDP to Rebuild Before 2027 as Onor Picks Babangida Umaru as Running Mate
Nyesom Wike has warned that the PDP cannot win the 2027 presidential election without first resolving its internal crises and strengthening grassroots structures. He noted that democracy is more than just high-profile contestants and called for ward and state-level organisation. Sandy Onor, the PDP’s presidential candidate, is reported to have chosen National Vice Chairman (North East) Babangida Umaru as his running mate. The Independent National Electoral Commission has set July 11, 2026, as the deadline for presidential and National Assembly nomination uploads, and a separate window from July 18 to August 8 for governorship and state Assembly candidates. The party’s National Publicity Secretary confirmed all uploads are complete, while a rival PDP faction insists former President Goodluck Jonathan remains the genuine candidate. The PDP says ongoing legal disputes will not derail its election preparations.
