Police Reveal Details of Alleged Assassination Plot at Ataoja of Osogbo’s Palace
The Osun State Police Command has shared new findings in the probe of an alleged attack on His Imperial Majesty Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II. A report by a committee led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID was submitted to the command. On June 3 at about 8:45am, a 26-year-old man identified as Semilola Odunayo Monday (aka Ankara) scaled the palace fence and forced his way in. He was intercepted by palace staff, fled, injured himself during pursuit, and was taken to Uniosun Teaching Hospital for treatment. After his recovery, he told investigators he had no weapon and no plan to harm the monarch. The police say he attributed his actions to substance influence. He was arraigned on an attempted felony charge on June 8 and remanded at a correctional centre. The command says investigations are ongoing and invites anyone with relevant information to come forward. It reaffirmed its pledge to protect lives and property in the state.
