NDLEA operatives arrested 30-year-old Joseph Cyril at the departure hall of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, while he was preparing to travel to Italy via Addis Ababa and France. The agency said he was placed under observation after his arrest and later excreted 98 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.510kg. Investigators alleged that he arrived from Italy in July and ingested the drugs at a hotel in Awka before travelling to Enugu. Cyril reportedly said he agreed to transport the drugs for €3,500 to raise money for a planned relocation to Germany. NDLEA also reported separate interceptions involving cocaine concealed in phone chargers and a backpack, as well as a shipment of synthetic cannabis in Lagos.
