Should Nigeria Consider a Traditionalist-Traditionalist Presidential Ticket?

Nigeria has tried Muslim-Christian and Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets, while some people now argue for a Christian-Christian ticket. I believe the country should also consider a traditionalist-traditionalist ticket. Our pre-colonial societies had political systems, values and institutions that deserve serious attention. The Benin Empire, which practised traditional religion, is often remembered for its wealth, urban planning, diplomacy, arts and extensive earthwork walls. Historical accounts also describe a sophisticated city with organised drainage and public spaces before the 1897 British invasion. I believe colonialism disrupted institutions that once supported indigenous development. Rather than treating traditional religion and governance as inferior, Nigerians should debate whether traditionalists deserve representation at the highest level of national leadership. When will Nigeria consider a traditionalist-traditionalist ticket for Aso Rock?

What would a traditionalist-traditionalist ticket represent in practice beyond religious identity, especially in a country with many different traditional beliefs?

I agree; the real conversation should be about shared governance values, inclusion, and how diverse traditions would be respected.

The post highlights that Nigeria's ticket debates often focus on balancing identities rather than the political values candidates would bring.

Would a traditionalist-traditionalist ticket make voters weigh policy ideas more seriously, or just spark another round of identity calculations?

Religious representation matters to many voters, but a ticket alone may not address the deeper questions of competence, trust, and national unity.

A useful discussion would compare candidates' policies and records alongside faith, so every proposed ticket is judged by the same standard.
