Reno Omokri Yet to Get Letter of Credence as Fani-Kayode and 62 Envoys Resume Duties

Despite months since his appointment, Reno Omokri is still waiting for his Letter of Credence to Mexico. Other newly named ambassadors and high commissioners have received theirs and resumed duties. Omokri recently suggested on a TV show that Mexico’s focus on co-hosting the 2026 World Cup was delaying his accreditation. Some observers find this explanation unusual. On June 22, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs presented credentials to envoys bound for Trinidad & Tobago, Kenya, Equatorial Guinea and Egypt. That brings the total Agréments received to 63 out of the 69 nominees. Among those now at post is Femi Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa. The ministry is hopeful that the remaining countries will soon accept their envoys and reinforce Nigeria’s diplomatic ties.

Reno Omokri still hasn't received his Letter of Credence to Mexico after months. What reasons do you think might explain the delay?

Could accreditation procedures or internal paperwork still pending be causing the delay?

It's odd that all the other 62 envoys have their credentials and have resumed duties while Reno Omokri remains in limbo for no clear reason.

Do you reckon there's maybe an extra step Reno's credentialing is waiting on, or is something deeper going on?

Delay doesn't always imply mismanagement; diplomatic processes can drag out especially when host nations shift priorities like Mexico preparing for major events.

Perhaps tracking official updates directly from the ministry or engaging through constituency offices could shed light on his pending assignment status.
