Nigeria Launches AI Scaling Hub with $7.5m Fund for Public Sector Innovation

Nigeria Launches AI Scaling Hub with $7.5m Fund for Public Sector Innovation

The Federal Government has launched the Nigeria Artificial Intelligence Scaling Hub alongside the Scaling AI for Development Challenge to accelerate AI adoption in public institutions. Backed by a $7.5 million commitment from the Gates Foundation, the initiative will provide technical assistance, computing infrastructure and policy support over three years. It aims to move proven AI solutions from pilot stages into nationwide use. Selected innovators will receive free access to national AI computing resources and undergo a competitive pairing with government agencies. The programme prioritises healthcare, education and agriculture to address Nigeria’s unique development challenges. The hub forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen digital infrastructure, research capacity and data platforms. Stakeholders say strong collaboration among government, academia and tech companies is key to building a globally competitive AI ecosystem.
