Sixty Years On: Aguiyi-Ironsi Family Honors Lt-Col Adekunle Fajuyi’s Ultimate Sacrifice

The family recalls that Fajuyi, then Military Governor of the Western Region, could have saved himself but chose to stay with Maj-Gen Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi during the July 1966 counter-coup in Ibadan. Describing him as a national martyr, the Aguiyi-Ironsi family urges government bodies and custodians of history to preserve Fajuyi’s memory and support his descendants.
