Tragic Flood in Katsina: Two Brothers Swept Away on Way Home from Islamiyya School
Two brothers, 12-year-old Muhammad Salisu and his younger sibling Abdurrahman, drowned after floodwaters swept them away in Janbago community, Katsina State. The boys were returning home from their nearby Islamiyya school when a sudden downpour and strong winds turned the streets into a raging torrent. Residents searched frantically and later recovered the boys’ bodies at different locations. The loss plunged the community into mourning as neighbours gathered to console the bereaved family. Their father described his grief as the most painful moment of his life and urged the government to act to prevent similar tragedies. Community elders say recurring floods in Janbago result from inadequate drainage and severe erosion. They note that stormwater from across Katsina LGA converges here each rainy season, damaging roads and putting lives at risk. Despite repeated appeals, no permanent solution has been provided. The Janbago Community Development Association has appealed to Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and relevant agencies to install proper drainage channels and flood-control measures. Residents warn that without urgent action, more lives could be lost in future downpours.
