High Court Adjourns Lawyer’s Trial Over Alleged Senator Banditry Sponsorship
The Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned until June 2 the trial of lawyer Ahmed Abdulrahman and four co-defendants. They stand accused of claiming in a TikTok video that Senator Shehu Buba Umar sponsored banditry. The defendants, initially prosecuted by the Inspector-General of Police on an 11-count charge, pleaded not guilty to cyberstalking, defamation and related offences under the Cybercrimes Act. They were remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre before securing bail. In December, the Attorney-General of the Federation took over the case. A prosecution witness also testified that one defendant tried to use the former Foreign Affairs Minister’s name in an alleged fraud scheme.
