ONSA Reports 1,721 Terrorism Convictions Under Mass Trial Programme
The Office of the National Security Adviser says 1,721 suspects have been convicted of terrorism since its Mass Trial Programme began in October 2017. The programme’s first three phases delivered 366 convictions, 882 discharges and five acquittals. Phases four to eight, held from 2023 to 2025, added 490 convictions. Phases nine and ten in 2026 secured 865 more. Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters says troops neutralised 1,597 terrorists and rescued 1,516 kidnapped victims in over 14,000 operations from January to June. Forces recovered hundreds of firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, explosives and IEDs across several states. The Nigeria Police Force also dismantled criminal networks linked to terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery. Thousands of suspects were arrested, arms and stolen railway materials were seized, and border security was stepped up. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to fair trials and urge public vigilance.
