What Really Happens After We Die?

Many wonder about life beyond death. In Christian belief, our bodies return to dust while our souls go to their eternal home. Believers enter conscious rest with the Lord, and those who reject Him await judgment in a conscious state. At Christ’s return, the righteous are raised first. Others follow for the final judgment. Scripture teaches that “the dust returns to the earth…but the spirit returns to God” (Ecclesiastes 12:7). Jesus spoke of paradise for the repentant thief (Luke 23:43) and showed conscious experiences after death (Luke 16:22–23). Paul described being “absent from the body…present with the Lord” and a heavenly, waiting body for believers (2 Corinthians 5).
